Rich Lynch: On a Pilgrimage - In the Footsteps of Townes Van Zandt
As the editor and publisher of this website I get to do a lot of cool things. That goes double for just living in Nashville, Tennessee and you never know whose shoulders you'll be rubbing up against or what music history you'll stumble upon on any given day.
One amazing experience that recently happened to us was that we had the extreme pleasure and honor to meet with Jeanene Van Zandt - wife of many person's favorite songwriter - the late, great Townes Van Zandt. Van Zandt overseas the estate and much of the catalog of TVZ and she had a lot to tell us in our 90 minute meetup in early April.
Rich Lynch and Jeanene Van Zandt meet up outside of Nashville in April.
She reminisced about life with Townes who passed away 21 years ago at the age of 52 in 1997 after a well documented struggle with alcohol. Jeanene also reported that new re-issues and special items will be coming later in the year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of the great Townes debut, For The Sake Of The Song.
Jeanene made sure we left with a mini archive of TVZ recordings so that we could really become familiar with the man she loved and tragically lost - but most importantly - keeps alive in devoted fashion. A full report on our visit with JVZ will is now published on Lynch's publications - the Music City Nashville website.
