Rockin' Rich Lynch: SONG - The Streets of Nashville

It was early in February of 2023 when I began noticing these ominous looking new smart meters going up all over downtown Nashville that promised strict, 24/7 parking enforcement was coming soon. Sure enough, the city has decided to take away all of our free after hours and weekend parking without considering the implications and impact on the musicians of Music City. Many voices of concern have begun to be raised and this song reflects and champions those opinions and that cause. Are they gonna ruin everything???

LYRICS (Words and Music by Rich Lynch)

Intro:
Well uh huh
Oh yeah
Well ah ha
Oh yeah yeah yeah

Verse:
They keep coming from everywhere
and from miles and miles around
They want to hear some music in the air
and maybe make that golden sound
But for 30 pieces of sullen silver
We've been surely sold
And on Broadway tonight
you're gonna find out
That all that glitters isn't gold

Chorus:
You can't park for free
On the Streets of Nashville
Things are looking pretty dark to me
On the Streets of Nashville
I still got a song to sing
and I'll sing it
On the Streets of Nashville
Are you gonna ruin everything?
On the Streets of Nashville

Verse:
The Briley Parkway is coming apart
But, at the least the pols got their pockets lined
Yeah, they're off to a really good start
As for the rest of us
Well, never you mind
If you overstay your welcome
They'll be quick to put the blame on you
The lazy reign in these days of lot
You greedy pigs, Hey, shame on you!

Chorus:
You can't park for free
On the Streets of Nashville
Things are looking pretty dark to me
On the Streets of Nashville
I still got a song to sing
and I'll sing it
On the Streets of Nashville
Are you gonna ruin everything?
On the Streets of Nashville

Verse:
So enjoy your new smart meters
And a problem that didn't need to be solved
As long as were stuck with these stupid leaders
And a humanity that's yet to evolve
Reminds me of that night on Torbett Street
When Kyle's dream was quickly gunned down
And it seems that can happen to you or me
In this one time sleepy Southern town

Chorus:
You can't park for free
On the Streets of Nashville
Things are looking pretty dark to me
On the Streets of Nashville
I still got a song to sing
and I'll sing it
On the Streets of Nashville
Are you gonna ruin everything?
On the Streets of Nashville

Outro:
Well uh huh
Oh yeah
Well ah ha
Oh yeah yeah yeah
